Hi - I'm fairly new to this site (I am based in UK), but there is always good discussion and info.

It's not easy to come across a wide range of molds here in UK, and I regularly check eBay for stuff.

I was hoping that someone might be able to come up with a Lyman 580213 - an old mold and probably extinct.

I am shooting a Pedersoli P58 enfield using a lapped out 575213, but thought that the 580213 might be a better option.

Anyone ready to part with one, or experience of the 580213 in the Pedersoli P58?

Thanks

.575 should work well, but the trick is very soft (virgin) lead so the skirt expands to engage rifling. Of course, assuming a.577 bore. Second, lube is important. Bees wax and lard and a toilet seal of beeswax and whatever else they put in it, thinned with the lard. Dip just the gas rings in it hot. Then @55 or less grains fff goex. Try loads down to 41 to see what groups best. Don’t clean between shots, just brush with a 20ga bronze brush every 10 or 12 rounds to keep loading effortless.
If you hear the rounds whistle, or if they keyhole, they are too small. Sorry, I don’t know about Lyman .580 mounds, but you should be able to find them online. Lyman or robs. I’ve use .575213 for decades in a dozen .58 muskets. All compete well. Hard lead can’t hit the broad side of a barn.
Good luck.

Hi

Thanks for your comments on this matter - as you say, pure lead is a must, and I use pure lead for all my mines in various calibres.

I have a Parker Hale .577 2 band which shoots perfectly well using the 575213PH mould, mainly because it has progressive rifling. The Pedersoli version has parallel rifling which ideally needs a bullet approx. 0.002" below bore size to work well. The bore on my Pedersoli is 0.578", so the 580213 should size down perfectly.
As I mentioned previously, I currently use a 575213 that I have lapped out the grease grooves to give a 0.578" bullet (the mold drops at 0.575-0.576"), and this works well for me, but I think the 580213 would be worth trying.
I use a synthetic engine oil/beeswax mix as a lube, and this keeps the bore fouling soft and no wiping between shots needed.
Lube is 16oz 0W40 oil to 2oz (4:1) beeswax, which is melted, mixed and loaded into a hand greasing kit.
