Does anyone have any tips for preventing splitting on the wrist of reproduction Smith carbine buttstocks? My old one split on the top of the wrist. I tried repairing it with epoxy, but that didn't hold, and I finally gave up and bought a new one. I'm thinking about coating the ends with Super Glue to avoid the same thing happening to the new one. Any other ideas?

Check your stock bolt/screw occasionally to keep it tight. Over time wood can compress or shrink and cause the receiver to batter the gap that may result.

When fitting the stock to the tang, leave a small gap between the wood and metal. It should fit tight where it slides up on the inside, but a paper thin gap on the outside where u can see. When the gun is closed, it forces pressure on the wood. Leave a gap and it should fix the problem. You could also reinforce the wood that slides up inside using glass bedding. Pm me with any questions. Good luck.
