I am interested in a good book on civil war carbines that would have pictures or drawings on how they worked. I am interested in the internals of the rifles to see how they worked. If I had titles and authors I could get them at library on loan. Thanks for help

Here's one I recently bought. It has scale drawings of the actions and the ammunition.

John Pitman
Breech-Loading Carbines of the United States Civil War Period (The Pitman Notes on U.S. Martial Small Arms and Ammunition, 1776-1933 , Vol 1)

Thre are 4 volumes in the complete set, but don't know what all they cover.

John Holland has the set and might be able to expound.

Of course, there's always Amazon and Google.

Carbines of the Civil War by McAulay will fill the bill. If you want your own copy I'll sell you mine - very good condition for $15 ppd.

I would like to own that copy. I will send a PM. Thanks
