I'm itching to fire my 1863 Merrill carbine. 25 caps exploded in a row on my welded mainspring (not heat treated, but she's more solid now than when she was assembled) and I think she's ready for the main event. Down the road I'll pick up an original mold and buy the lead, gunpowder, paper. Anyone within a few hours drive of Milwaukee have some bullets I could buy? Maybe there's a midwest skirmish still planned this summer/fall?
I still need a correct band before firing, as S&S sent me a narrow, half-width, off-center drilled, misshaped brass band that's going back - very disappointed again. Lastly, I will take it to a gunsmith to verify its in good enough condition to fire once again.
