Hi guys!
My Title should read, MIDDLETON, CONN.
I was just given this 1852 Haston pistol.
(H.Aston & Co.)
It was in a display case.
It is stamped Haston & Co. Above it is U.S.
Was told, it was used for EARLY CAVALRY during the Civil War. (DRAGOON)???
Guessing 69 cal. Smoothbore.
(Just found out it's a 54 caliber.)
Looking at it, it was heavily used!
Trigger guard broken & brazed back.
Lots of DINGS on buttstock end.
Lots of DINGS on top of COMB.
Lots of DINGS by NIPPLE & TANG.
Large chips etc out of wood.
No front sight, no ramrod.
Action works GREAT!
She's a REAL SWEETIE, in my eyes, being possibly a MILITARY Gun.
Would very much appreciate your feedback!
My first SMOOTHBORE!
My earliest dated gun!
I have Civil War rifles, and pistols, just not this early!

The name on your pistol is "H. Aston", and a very nice gift!

Looks like it was used to nail runaway slave notices around the county. Ity's not PC these days. I'll give to $50 and "dispose of it properly" ;)

Very cool, especially if the lock works and the bore is ok. End of an Enfield ramrod would be close to the original on mine with a fob on the other end. Otherwise, just work up a brass rod. The swivel is another story, though it does make it tougher to load.
