SOLD PENDING FUNDS: Antique Sharps Model 1 Pepperbox Pistol

This all original piece is in excellent, working condition. It’s Perche Grips are original with NO chips, cracks or gouges. The 2 ½” long barrel shows rifling and its exterior has traces of bluing. Her brass frame is solid, in tact, with no cracks. The action and trigger are very tight. The hammer spring is strong enough and the rotating firing pin works fine. These pistols, in this condition which still work are getting hard to find.

The right side of the brass frame reads “C.SHARPS&CO./PHILADA. PA.”. The other side reads “C.SHARPS/PATENT 1859”.

She is a nice little piece, that will shoot! From my late father, who picked her up somewhere in the mid '60's, she's been cared for all these many years, but sitting idle for FAR TOO LONG.

Will make a VERY nice addition to any period collection; or, as a wonderful accessory to compliment a "gentleman's" attire. Compared to others on the market, in this condition – she's priced to move!

Asking (plus S/H) [no trades please] - OR - arrangements can be made to deliver at the Fort.

Background: Christian Sharps invented his famously large bore, breech-loading rifle in 1848, after practicing gun-making under John Hall at Harpers Ferry Armory. In 1859, he premiered another unique design in the 4-barreled pepperbox pistol with a unique revolving firing pin. This repeating design was able to utilize the new rim fire ammunition like Smith & Wesson, without infringing on Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White Patent for bored through chambers on a revolver’s cylinder. This gave Sharps a leg up in the market since everyone else either had to produce single shot pistols, come up with an alternate ammunition and weapon design, or just stick with percussion until the patent expired. They made very nice, easy to use and compact firearms for 19th Century conceal and carry.
