Recently ordered an 1842 smoothbore and ended up sending it back for a number of issues but one of them was the fact that the front bbl band was so loose it rattled and the bbl wasn't even a close fit in the forward part of the stock. Vendor told me they come like that from the manufacturer and all of them are that way. Anyone else have one, is that the way they are? I was told I could take the brand new gun out and have the stock glass bedded and that would fix it. What??????

That's been my experience. I had to glass bed a buddies armi sport '42 right out of the box. We also put some shims under the front bad to keep it from rattling. My understanding is the older armi '42s were a little better quality

Yes, fit seems poor on my Armisport 42 front barrel band also. Mine is glass bedded. I have a brand new one - I will check it.

When ArmiSport/Ciappa first introduced their M-1842 Musket it was a good tight "Fit & Finish" very close to the original M-1842. Unfortunately, today ArmiSport/Chiapas's seems much more interested in Cowboy Action and modern arms than their line of muzzle loading arms, the quality of which is degrading more and more every year.
