Besides the usual suttlers does anyone make/sell an upgraded Smith Carbine rear sight? I am not happy with the quality of the rear sight provided as original on the Pedersoli Smith. I know at least one Sharps replacement which is awesome and am looking for the same quality.

Your Smith is probably a Pietta not a Pedersoli. What exactly is the issue you want to correct? You can get replacement slides or blank slides to improve the sight picture.

I have a few to sell if your interested. They are set up to fit a Pietta sight ladder. Send me a PM if your interested.

Crop crop crop. You have to crop the pictures to get within the file size limit.

This was the first sight I made. The new version pictured in the batch photo is a bit thicker and uses a 4-40 machine screw. The sight is made of steel and is rust blued.

For my own knowledge, when did it become legal to add a set screw to a ladder sight of a Smith and isn't the altered sight supposed to remain dimensionally consistent with the original?

Mr. Altland is correct. These items would all cause disqualification in any N-SSA carbine individual or company match. All allowable sight modifications are listed in Section 19.9.1 of The Skirmish Rules.

Good question. Most every Smith replacement rear sight I've seen or bought on sutler row is bigger.

Well then.....it seem the design will need to be refined before it can be used for more than load development. Thanks for letting me know.

Good question. Most every Smith replacement rear sight I've seen or bought on sutler row is bigger.By dimensionally consistent, I was more referring to the sight being a flat piece of steel and not resembling a Smith L-shaped elevator. That sight would not be functional with the ladder in the lowered position.

It looks good, man.

I just don't get why some skirmishers just don't read our rules. Many, many questions asked here are answered just by looking them up. Who's to blame when a sight or anything is sold as acceptable and they are on the line and get disqualified? Sorry, just talking out loud......... I am NOT pointing fingers at anybody in particular here.

Yes it certainly is frustrating. I make a point to read somebody's rules every day. But of course as Wellington said, "Nobody in the British Army ever reads a regulation or an order as if it were a guide to his conduct, or in any other manner than an amusing novel."
