(SOLD) Very nice Gallagher Carbine (suggested as possible Grand Army of the Republic parade gun or Navy usage): all original parts; clear legible lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood is fine condition with some carbine-swivel wear. Based on the external condition with the plating, carbine was in very fine to mint condition at the time it was plated, and if removed will likely be in that same condition. Brownells has a nickel plating remover solution that costs about $60 that will remove the plating without damaging the metal beneath, if that is you want to remove all the nickel plating. But here’s why you might like the plating to remain. Given tests applied to nickel plated commercial products include subjecting to 240 hours of continuous salt spray, there are some advantages to being plated: extreme corrosion resistance, smoother action, and much easier to keep the parts lubricated. It's a very nice condition carbine, good shooter and probably the lowest maintenance of any gun you'll ever own -- the burnt powder residue just wipes off. Asking $1,375 including shipping. May still have the carbine for sale at the Chickamauga Civil War Show, 5-6 Feb 2011?
