Is there any one out there who may have the double mid band for a PJ Malherbe rifle? It looks like two 42 mid bands that were attached on the underside A nose cap with cut out for front sight would be nice to. Its a Belgian musket for those who are unsure.

I believe this gun is also called a Saxon or Dresden rifle. This identification may help you in your search.

Actually it is a another model by PJ. I have found several that have sold in the US "passed down from civil war vets" both north and south. There are many in museums overseas with details saying many were shipped to the US for the war. 100 of them.......who knows

Yep, pretty much what I thought!

But John........

There are examples all over the net with many having references to use in the War for Southron Independence.

I have never seen one of those bands for sale! You just might have to make one Robert!

I found two basket cases that auctioned online a few months back for under $250. They show up now an again. They go by like five different names so it's apt of searching.
The model with rear sight right behind the rear band has a screw through it into the barrel to hold it in place. It's not just pinched on there. I had one back in the 80's and was told I could t shoot it so dummy me sold it.

Neither model of the Saxon/Dresden Rifle Musket has the rear sight right behind the band.

Model 1855

What you are showing is not a Saxon/Dresden Rifle Musket, which is what we were talking about. Malherbe is a manufacturer, not a model.

I know John. I said in my post "....it is a another model by PJ"
Of which I have found references that some were sent here. !00 of them.......I dunno :(

I've looked here and there over the years but only found ones here being sold or auctioned that were "handed down from the war" or seen auctions overseas stating "Many of these went to America for the Civil War" but I doubt if they did someone would have called them 1855's and not Saxon or Dresden's like they lumped so many other types of arms together.

Disregarding the lack of any supporting documentation, there are no known photos in existence showing this musket, nor have there ever been any parts of it recovered from any of the battlefields, camps, or camp dumps. In addition, the Springfield Armory made every attempt to keep one example of every arm imported, and they don't have one of these. I'm convinced it wasn't here!
