I'm looking for a recommendation of someone who can tune an original R&S revolver, most importantly accurately size the chambers to the bore diameter.

Thank you you in advance and good luck at Nationals to those competing

Brian

If you're wondering, I can vouch for Brian. He's on the Canadian Muzzle-Loading Team. Great guy to deal with.

Don't bother trying to recruit him, the McGregors have a prior claim. Unless the Canadians get an N-SSA team going... :-)

I too can vouch for Brian...

Thankfully the York Rangers claim was staked prior to the McGregors! 🙂

What are the dimensions of your chambers and what is the groove diameter of your revolver? I have an original Remington that has a chamber diam of .451 and a groove diam around .455. It actually shoots pretty good like that. I have thought about having the chambers opened up to better fit the groove diam but I cant seem to bring myself to have it done

The chambers measure generally .448 and the bore is .451-.452

They could be the Great White North-South Shooting Association, eh?

My apologies, the grove diameter is .451-.452. I drove an oversized lead ball down the barrel and measured it using calipers.

You having problems getting it to shoot?

You having problems getting it to shoot?

Im not getting great accuracy from it compared to my reproduction R&S. The bore is in excellent shape as is the crown. I've decided I want to enlarge the chambers to be maybe .001 or .002 larger than the bore and have the throat cut (maybe 18 degrees?).

What im trying to find out is who people have used and would recommend to do this type of work.

Thanks

Brian

Can someone give me an idea what aRogers and Spencer 44 Revolver might be worth. Its a Euro arms. Its new in the box. Thanks

There is an ad in For Sale/Wanted He is asking $400. When I bought my first R & S I paid $175, my second was $200 (Pre 2000). I hve sen them on Arms List go between $200- $500. As you know, Euroarms is no longer around and the only other game in that market is German. My guess...it depends on what people are willing to pay. Me, I would buy another if the price was right.

$400 for brand new repo is reasonable. Not sure if HP Gregory still tunes them, but he is VERY good at getting R&S’ worked up for match use. He set up my first RS. His quality of work and attention to detail are remarkable.

Another option is to wait/look for an original Ball Accurized revolver. As I understand it (I may have the story wrong) the early ones were accurized by a Mr. Ball who unfortunately passed away. His business was either taken over, or those current Ball accurized pistols are the products of someone else who still uses the Ball name. The original Ball was renowned for putting our extraordinary revolvers. I own two and they’re good pieces.

FWB (German) R&S’ are without doubt the VERY best you could ever purchase. However, they run 1800 - 2000 and are extremely hard to come by. I own one and LOVE shooting it! Being German made, mechanically its a thing of beauty.

My two cents... Obviously I lean very heavily on the vastly superior Rogers over the inferior New Army. Good luck in your quest for a cap and ball revolver!

That question was asked by a SPAMBOT. That username has been running amuck at will.

I can help out either way you decide to go. If the barrel you have is okay I can set the head space, and ream the cylinders, if it is a real slow twister, I offer a new made for you gain twist ].

If you won't banned these spambot user names for spamming the board then maybe take them down for being off topic talking about tuning butts and brisket???

The spam saga CONTINUES.......

Hey Pat, instead of being a jerk all over the board, REPORT THE SPAMMERS. Click the report icon (little triangle below the post). In fact, why I don't I just shut down the forum, and give you the file. You seem to want to run things, since you're bitching all over the place, but not bothering to send me a single email about the issue before stabbing me.

Vicky......you obviously missed my posting on this topic in the other thread where I praised you for all you do. I also pointed out that I HAVE used the triangle each and every time send the notices and including a message with most every one of them. If you are not getting them then something is broke or someone is intercepting them. We are talking around FIFTY reports sent in the last couple months. It even makes you wait 60 seconds to report them.
So you post attacking me is misguided at thee least. Again.......you do a lot and put up with even more. Then is not I any way an attack on you. I have inquired on half or better of the "triangle reports" why nothing is being done and never once a response.

I will ill use the triangle to report this post......maybe it's broken???
