HAVE THIS 1833 POTSDAM , MADE IN NEISSE, OHIO PROOFED.BUT PLATE IS SAMPED "22 LWR, 6C".

ANY INFO WOULD APRECIATED.

Hello Wayne,

The butt plate markings are from when the musket was originally issued in Europe. The "22 LWR" is for the "22nd Landeswehr Regiment", which would be like a "Militia" to us, and the "6C" is the "6th Company". At least that is the way it was explained to me many long years ago when you couldn't get $50 for a "Pottsdam!" I don't profess to be good at German spelling, so if someone wants to correct it....or my explanation for that matter, go right ahead!

The "OHIO" stamping is an "ownership" mark stamped on the arm when it was taken into stores upon being withdrawn from service. Again, that is how I remember another explanation given to me.

Somewhere on the barrel, on the side, or sometimes underneath, you should find a second, later, date which would be the date it was converted to percussion.
