I bought this carbine from Track of the Wolf last Fall. The price is $1,250.00 face to face in northern VA. Add $45.00 for shipping in CONUS.
This carbine is assembled from a mixture of new parts, and antique European musket parts by contemporary builder Richard Hansen. The carbine is stocked in black walnut with a checkered wrist and forearm. The furniture is a mixture of brass, and color case hardened or blued iron furniture. The antique French musket lock is marked with Confederate state markings. The side plate and front barrel band are mounted with sling swivels. This carbine is as-new.

The 33" barrel has a short octagon breech and then has been tapered round. The .54 caliber bore is rifled with eight lands and grooves with a 1 in 66" twist. The bore is bright and appears as-new. The exterior of the barrel is finished to a dark blue. The barrel is fitted with a military style front sight. The rear sight is a ladder sight.

The American black walnut stock is sanded smooth in as new condition. The wrist and forearm are checkered for a secure grip. The buttstock is fitted with a tall nearly flat buttplate to spread the recoil over a large area. Two barrel bands secured with band springs hold the barrel to the stock.

Trigger reach is 13-1/2", weight is 10 pounds.

The rounded comb of the buttplate is mounted with a large iron screw. Ahead of the comb the wrist moves up to the short rounded tang of the barrel.

The bottom view of the musket shows off the rounded toe of the gun. The color case hardened triggerguard grip rail has a checkered pattern to provide a secure grip. The two barrel bands also act as the ramrod pipes. This carbine is fitted with a metal ramrod with a jagged brass tip.

Ignition is provided by this antique back action lock. The French style percussion lock dates from the 1850's. The lock plate is stamped with a Confederate States marking and color case hardened. The tumbler screw and mounting bolts are polished and blued. We note that is possible to overpower the half cock notch on this lock. The breech is fitted with a 1/4-28 threaded nipple for a musket cap. A brass fence has been added to the bottom of the bolster to direct cap spray away from the stock at the breech.

The two lock bolts pass through from the lock side into the sideplate that acts as the base for the sling swivel. A third screw secures the tail of the sling bar. The sideplate is stamped with a 54.
