Fixing to strip the shiny stuff off the stock of an older Armisport.
What products you fellas found to work best on cleaning out the pores in the wood?

Any upside and downside info on available products would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Back when I was reenacting and shooting blanks, I had a P53 Euroarms that I partially defarbed. Took all the metal off, very gently scraped it with the edge of a piece of glass, then lightly sanded with 220. After that, a coat of boiled linseed oil with a touch of burnt umber oil paint for tint. Got to let the linseed oil soak in before handling. Turned out great.

I stripped my Euroarms P1853 which came with a Polyurethane stock.

I used CitriStrip:

I followed the directions. Had to repeat a few times.

I then stained with a mixed leather dye, I believe I used brown plus a little black. I do not like most big-box commercial wood stain products like Minwax because they are not very penetrative. Most of it sits on top of the wood and gets rubbed off. Leather dye penetrates the wood. Just remember, you can go darker, but you can't go lighter. So start light, and then darken if you need to. I finished it with boiled linseed oil.
