I better choice may be the H&R Huntsmen ====>http://www.armslist.com/posts/7060616/columbus-ohio-muzzle-loaders-for-sale--1970-huntsmen-h-r-58-cal--muzzle-loader-

Hello:

Break open (shotgun style) designs that have a breechplug in the aft end and a nipple have contributed to some nasty accidents when closed on a "high" cap.

H&R and other makers had several forms of these, some with and some WITHOUT threaded breechplugs!

Close them very carefully and NEVER open them right after closing. In one instance, in front of three companions, a hang-fire and quick opening of the breech for inspection put the breech plug squarely between the eyes of a hunter in south Florida years ago. I had to explain the hole to the medical examiner.

Respectfully,
Kevin Tinny

H&R made some great guns over the years; the Huntsman wasn't one of them. I agree with Kevin, get the Buffalo Hunter.

Title says it all. Thanks for the recommendations and the Hawkins repro looks very interesting and a decent price but looking for this specific firearm for several reasons, mostly want, not need.

It was my ISP...some weekend anti-gun IT tech decided to block any gun related addresses. After reaming up the chain to all I could talk to for almost 2 hours, the problem went away.

I hate CenturyLink.

.

I finally got one for a decent price....It is a "custom" cut down version of the Navy Arms A. Zoli Zouave, 1971 manufacture. They retained the two barrel bands and the metal ramrod and the barrel is cut down to 25" (one inch shorter than the Buffalo Hunter).

I think I will be happy with what I got.

I'm not so sure that it's cut down. I seem to remember them offering a carbine version of the zouave for a short time. Appears to be in very nice condition. Congrats and good luck with it.

This was a standard Carbine model "Zouave" offered by Zoli. My room mate in College has/had one just like it.

Thanks to all who help me ID this thing. I had heard about the carbine but never seen one in the wild. Either way it fills the bill nicely.

I got it for WAAAAAY cheaper than this one: http://flintlocksetc.com/rj_navy.html

Chorizo,
Ain't that rifle just a thing of beauty? It also says "I mean business". I've killed two deer with my Zouave (also have a BH but haven't taken it hunting yet). The minie ball went in the right front shoulder and exited the left ham and didn't ruin 2 oz of meat. They're short, handy around vehicles and powerful.

It certainly is and certainly does! Look out elk!

Big disappointment today. The company shipped the wrong gun! Now I have to wait another 11 days to get my gun.

Do you have a source of minie balls and/or round balls? Harry in Pa.

your accuracy will suffer unless you get the proper fit on your round. Go to your local machine chop and have them mic your barrel and then order rounds .001 under bore size. More then that and it'll be luck shots past 75-100 yards
