How are the unused holes plugged on flintlock conversions?

How are the unused holes plugged on flintlock conversions?

I am imagining they counter-sunk the holes a bit, and then threaded in a piece of threaded rod and then peened (hammered) it semi-flush, and then filed and polished it flat?

On the ones I have own a screw section appeared to have been peened in place and then milled or filed smooth. Some done better than others!

I have never taken any apart to ascertain whether they were peened frictioned pins or peened end threaded screws.

Based on the handful I have owned, I would agree they appear to be peened down and them filed and polished smooth- some nearly invisible others showing the full or partial edges of the hole.

I did have a Wickham alteration lockplate where for some reason when it was stripped they removed the flintlock hole "plugs" and there was no sign of threads in the holes implying smooth pins of some kind.
