Gentlemen, Who re-lines original rifle-musket barrels? A friend of mine has an original 1841 Mississippi with a sewer-pipe bore. (The whole rifle has been refinished so it's not a question of messing up an original finish.) The name Bobby Hoyt has come up. Is he good and reliable? Thanks!

Bobby Hoyt has done many barrels for me over a 20 some year period. He is about the only game in town on Mississippi barrels. His phone # is 717-642-6696 and it is best to call early in the morning.
His address is: Robert A. Hoyt
2379 Mount Hope Road
Fairfield, PA 17320

Dan Whitacre did barrel lining but he got the Mississippi liners from Hoyt in .54 caliber or any .58 caliber with a twist other than 72". He has since sold his drilling and rifling machine.

Larry Romano does some barrel lining. His contact info can be found by Google as Romano Rifle Co.

That about covers it.

Relining is an easy enough job on paper, but as a testament to Bobby Hoyt's work: I had (well, still have) a Euroarms Enfield that just was erratic, even though the bore looked pretty fine. Bobby stuck one finger in it and said, "Rifling is too shallow. I could reline it but it doesn't need it. I need to cut the rifling deeper and (as I said it shot dead on at 50 but well to the left at 100) straighten the barrel."He d

He did these things and it shot great after that.

Any good machinist could bore out a sewer pipe barrel and install a caliber specific liner, then recrown it. A craftsman can do all the other work provided, and that's why I would recommend Bobby.

YOU DON'T KNOW ?

I would not consider anyone but Bobby Hoyt. Regards G. Pope , Washington Blue Rifles.

Bobby Hoyt does great work. One thing he really appreciates is if you can send two sized bullets of the type that will be used, that way he can cut the rifling to the correct size and depth of the rifling. I know this because I have been to his shop several times and that is something he told me that makes it easier for him to get the max out of the cut.

Persist in calling. It may take you more than a few tries. Leave your ego on the back porch.

Absolutely Bobby Hoyt. My uncle brought me a 61 Springfield, all original patina, but missing a rear sight, nose cap, trigger guard, & bore was gone. Bobby relied it with an original twist .577. It shoots perfectly accurate and looking at the munzzle it's perfect. Can't even tell it was welded. Only clue is the perfect bore. I bought original parts that matched patina & the musket is amazing.

The liner isn't "welded" in, it is epoxied in place....so don't put any heat on it!
