I'm looking for a mold that throws at least a 580 mini. Prefer an Enfield type mini.

I have a Hodgdon . Looking for a Enfield style or reg mini. I have several 575s and 578s but need a biggie! Both my 580 Hodgdons cast at 577.

A NOE .580 Hodgdon will cast at .580 plus we are working on a better plug design. Just a thought.

A while ago I think it was Steve Light that had replacement plugs for the Hodgdon Minie... I think I got a couple but I cannot remember if I ever installed them.

MOSTLY because I only shoot PURE LEAD out of my 1855 and have never had an issue with it... They grab the rifling..

I have a TWO .580 Hodgdon Minie Molds on a casting machine and size the bullets to .579... (I love that thing, it makes 40 pounds of Minies an hour)

I know my bore of the 1855 is a bit over .580 because my bullets go down so easy, I can set the ram rod on the bullet and it will go all the way down by it's self... Before you say this is too big,,, nope that musket will group less than 4 inches groups at 100 yards...

Now, if I could only get that Ballard and Henry to do the same thing...

Northeast trader had and may still have the modified hodgdon core pins. They make the cavity slightly deeper and thinner. Turned a very good mold into an exceptional one in my estimation.

I have a regular minie that has been let out to .583" it was originally a .575213. - You could shorten the plug and it would be like the enfield bullet. If you are interested. fugate.charles@gmail.com.
