The barrel features Rich Cross sights with tall, dovetailed front sight. The barrel has been glass bedded. In my experience accuracy is more easily obtained from a musket with a Whitacre barrel and good trigger pull. This musket offers both, with a 156 year history. $2,000.00.

Question from a dummy, what are the differences between the 11853 and the 1861? The rifling? They are both muzzle loader, yes-no?

P(attern)53 is simply that firearms designation. This is a Birmingham made Type 3, with a lock date of 1861.It doesn't have VR under the crown indicating it wasn't made for British military use, and was most likely made for export.
