Does anyone have a favorite minie style for a Zoli Zouave? I just got one, the bore measures .578. I of course will be doing a lot of experimenting, just wondering what works well for others. Thanks for any help.

I use the Lyman 575213, 505 Gr. new style minnie, I have used that bullet since 1975 in my first Zoli Zouave, and also my second Zoli Zouave which I presently use. Has been a very good bullet for me. My bore diameter is .576 and I use 40 Gr. of 3f goex.

My early '70's Zoli bore measures .581. I have had good success with the Rapine .580510 sized to .578. This combination will put the shots into 1 hole all day long, I just wish I could.

To all you posters - I have a Zoli Zouave from the 70s - has not been shot all that much that I've shot Lyman traditional .575s and Lee long skirt .575s, both with 35 grains of powder. Both bullets drive tacks for three shots then start drifting off - usually high left. Is this a powder charge issue, corrupt bore or what?

Jim,
Probably not enough lube. When you ram the minies, does the effort required get progressively more difficult? If so, you need more lube. If you're not lubing the cavity, you might want to try that.

Same here,,,,, .575213 Lyman with 35 grains of 3F Goex. Bore size .581 and bullets drop out of the mold at .5795 It'll shoot all day without cleaning.

Thanks for the reply guys. However I don't think it's the lube. I use Bill Osborne's lube which in my Enfield stays nice and slick all day with absolutely no accuracy problems. The Zouave also loads nicely through many shots - but accuracy goes away, that's why this is such an exasperating problem. The gun did sit in the rack for a number of years and may have developed a rust---pitting problem but my bore light burned out so I haven't been able to establish this. Loading resistance does not indicate this -- not herky-jerky going down, very smooth.
