Looking for specifications for the front band screw (used in place of a bandspring) for a 30" Macon conversion. Finishing a project, thanks in advance for any information.

The original, as most often observed, is a round headed wood screw.

Steel, correct? Aside from being a roundheaded wood screw, any specs that would run afoul of the SAC for inspection?
Thanks John,
Jon

I've used #6 x 1/2" steel round head wood screws. I found them at a local ACE hardware store. #8 would probably work well also. You will probably find plated ones. You can burn off the plating or polish it off whichever you prefer.

John Bly's advice is very good, no problems with Small Arms.

Just a note, for someone later building a Macon. The #6 wood screw was just a hair too big for the hole on my original front band. Did not want to enlarge the hole, but #5 wood screws not available locally. Found one online, ordered a box, so if anyone needs a #5 3/8 Roundhead slotted wood screw for a build, let me know. I'm going to do a comparison of acetic acid, muriatic acid, mechanical polishing to see what removes zinc best, then rinse, bake, and rust brown the screws to match.
