SOLD PENDING FUNDS
Offering for sale an original Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber WITH it's originally issued (Model 1833) white buff leather sword belt rig. They are both in GREAT condition! Most likely produced to meet the military's demands during the War with Mexico, given their condition it's very doubtful they were issued for field use - either in the Mexican-American, or the Civil War.
Sword:
Leather handle does have a minor crack (from time, not abuse). The handle's wire wrap is intact. Tang, helmet-style pommel, guard, & rounded rear quillion are free of any damage, bends or flaws. The 31.5" curved, single fuller blade is bright/shiny with a few minor blemishes - NO chips, bends, cracks or serious rust/pitting. This tip of the blade is true.
The ricasso has the following marks/stamps:
U S
S. K.
on the other side
N. P.
CABOTVILLE (Ames Mfg Co. address)
1847
Scabbard:
Undented with a nice even dark patina, no signs of abuse or hard use
Belt:
Rig IN THIS CONDITION IS RARE. Composed of white buff leather that IS completely supple! NO stains, cracks, rips or deterioration. Round, interlocking brass US buckle. All straps, hook and buttons are intact and are original to the sabre.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration on a wonderful piece of original/personal equipment!
