Pietta 1858 Remington Revolver Front Sight

Does anyone know how the front sight is attached to the barrel on a Pietta 1858 Remington Revolver? Thanks, Kurt

Kurt,
It would appear just a simple stud in a drilled hole in the barrel on all models except the "Shooters" which has the stud mounted on a .270 driftable dovetail .

I believe it is just a stud brazed in place.

Here is an article I wrote about how I replaced the front sight on a Pietta 1858 with a hand-cut dovetailed one.

If I had to do it over again, I would simply twist out the old post and solder in a brass one, and then file it to point of aim windage-wise and up and down.

Nice article Steve. Like you suggest I'm going to add a new post and file for windage. I did this to the original sight however after recrowning (or actually crowning) the muzzle I've found the front sight needs too much work. Originally I added metal to one side of the sight and removed metal from the other side to bring it in to point of aim. Its butchered to the point of needing a new sight, hence trying to figure out how it was attached. Thanks, Kurt
