So as sort of a general question... what kind of sights did this gun have originally?

Right now I am shooting one that has a peep sight. I'm kind of a rare bird; I have horrible eyes, thick glasses... am running up on middle age and needing bifocals... but I seem to shoot open sight guns better than peeps.

I'd be interested in procuring an open sight for the gun for the off season and seeing how I do; but what am I looking for? I'd do the shopping at nationals.

You will want to purchase a set of sight leaves for a Harper's Ferry 1855 Rifle. That is what Fayetteville used because their tooling came from Harper's Ferry.
