My new Maynard has a barrel with G.W.S. stamped on the octagon portion on the left side. The serial number is 7XXX so was probably made late 63 or early 64. The barrel also has tooling marks similar to what the Germans had in late war production. Was the Maynard behind schedule for delivery and thus not a lot of time spent on external polishing? Was G.W.S. an inspector? Thanks for any information.
