I have an orginal Sharps carbine. Someone apparently tried to drill out a buggered cleanout screw on the breechblock, and then broke off a tap in the hole. I am looking for a guy with the capability of drilling this out and replacing the cleanout screw, at very least. It also needs the gas plate polished. Are there any good machinist types out there who can help me save this old gun?? Contact me here or directly at <usrifle1841@sbcglobal.net>.
Thanks-

Jim,

Had the same happen to a teammate on his musket he stuck in a dental pick in the clean out and broke it off. We found a guy over here in Indiana who has a lazer guided mill machine who cut out the dental pick without touching the threads and was able to just screw in the clean out screw with no problem. Now I know I am in Indiana but with it being an original maybe it might be an avenue.
Hope this helps,
