Hello, I'm trying to decide between a original or Romano spencer for shooting at silhouettes at 200 yds. Has anybody out there tried shooting this distance with these guns, or should I be looking at a Maynard.

Thanks
Dana

I use my original Robinson with a lyman bullet (510 grns). It does well as does my Henry. The Henry is in 45 long colt. I have tried my Maynard, but did not want to change out the sight for the longer distance.

I shoot an original Spencer converted to .50 cal. It is slow compared to a Henry, but it is fun. Nice thing about an original is that it never decreases in value.

Sam Colt was left handed and his revolvers were made with the left handed shooter in mind. You hold the revolver in your left hand and load with the right, then shoot with the left............... (To bad most folks are right handed and figured out the correct way to shoot a revolver.)

Am I reading correctly that Henry shooters can use repeaters chambered in .45LC?

Yes, you may use 45 colt cartridges in Henry's. However, if you are buying and henry, it is better to get one in 44-40 as it was design as a BLack Powder Rifle Cartridge. These is less blowback with the 44-40's and they seem to work better in our sport. The 45 colt was never designed as a rifle cartridge. They work well using smokeless powder (unique), but they do no work very well using blackpowder.. I use a 240 gr hard lead bullet sized to .429" with 34 grains of Dupont (Yes..Dupont 3 F powder). it is a hot load but you don'nt have to adjust between 50 and 100 yards..

I have never figured our a good load for the 45 Colt.

.45 Long Colt,

I bought a used one, it's a tack driver with a home cast 270grain (something like a Keith) with 28gr of 3f Goex. Also I use the same load for 50 and 100 yards. Oh I hand dip with lens lube, run a bore snake through events, no problem with blow back, or barrel build up.

Just have to try different things to find out what she likes.

Do you use hard lead? I found that since the Henry barrels are made for modern ammo they shoot better with hard lead. Just wondering.....I have a Lyman 255 gr mold that works great in my revolver. I tried it in a Henry and could not get a pattern. These bullets were cast 20:1 which is kind of soft. Wondering if I should recast using a harder lead?
