A most often asked question but the least answered does any one know what serial number range original British made Parker Hales would fall into? Where would a serial number in the high 6000 range fall into?
Thanks
Mike

I am not sure of the date range but I know my 1853 PH is early 70's with a SN of 38xx. My barrel is marked Birmingham England .577 but the round that actually fits the bore is sized to .574.

1st Gen Rifle-Muskets get into the teens, so 14xxx is still in the 1st Gen. For the Rifles, 31xxx is an Italian stock and furniture with a Birmingham barrel.

David Minshall has a Parker-Hale serial number registry, so perhaps he can help you narrow down a production date, and if not, you can at least add your serial number to the list. http://www.lrml.org/parkerhale/index.htm

On the underside of the barrel there should be a tiny code; two letters and a number. This appears in a variety of styles, including a divided circle and a plain circle. If this code can be identified (preferably with a serial number) then I can confirm which year that the barrel was proofed.

Just got my 1861 Musketoon
It has the follwoing markings
SN # 6930
Marked Parker-Hale LTD. Birmingham England forward of the rear site
Crown over BP on the knoxform and again on the tang
Underside of barrel is marked
Crown over BP 31/2 Drams Black Powder over 577 536 grs bullet followed by another broof looks like crossed arrows or something with three letters or numbers cannot really make it out without my magnifing glass (which I need to find) Botton of barrel near breech also marked with what looks like a D Gun has 5 groove 1 48" twist rifling and the stock has the Parker Hale Cartouche on the right side of the stock.

Any idea of the age and if she is completly British or British/Italian??

Thanks
Mike

It appears to be a British made P-H. Best estimate is c1980. Unfortunately much of the date info I have is when people bought them, so not always reliable as to when they were made. The small mark with two-letters and a number after the proof information is a private viewer's date code as to the year the barrel was proofed. These will be either between crossed swords or in a circle. If this can be read I can confirm the year.
