Has anyone shot their 1858 Remington through a chrony with a target load of around 18 grains 3F Goex?

What muzzle velocity did you get?

Went shooting a day early.
Uberti 1858
454 RB
18 grains Goex 3F Hand weighed with lubed wonderwad over powder NO filler used
Lens lube used over ball
Chronograph readings;

Average velocity 588 FPS
High 612 FPS
Low 560.

Just a side note every thing the same but with 21 grains of 3F

684 fps avg
661 fps low
718 fps high

Accuracy was terrible!

Accuracy with 18 grains all in black

My gun- and it is a .44- groups best with a laughable 10 grains. Pop. Pop. Pop.

Bet you those balls are moving about 300 fps. Still I wouldn't want to stand in front of one!

The 1st Maine just found out our cannon groups better with a 1/2 ounce lighter charge.
I have been doing some research on the .36 Navy Colt and some long ago commentators were using 9-10 grains.

Ya gotta experiment!!
