Can not find any other marking on it other than. P proof mark on the brass trigger guard.

What am I looking at as for time frame or info if it could date to the war?

I can now make out a 1858 patent date

Hallo!

My reference books are boxed and in storage due to a house remodel since May of 2015. :(

But...off the top of my head, your M1863 New Model Army revolver was made in June of 1864. if you share the full serial number, I might be able to track who it was issued to and when as that book is not MIA.

Hallo!

80,759 falls in the range 80,720 and 81,012. It likely went to Company "I," 5th Illinois Cavalry in 1865 (day and month not known).

There may be some further research potential in what records exist for the 5th Illinois, such as "Arming the Suckers" maybe.

One day I will have my books back and could look.

According to Don Ware's "Remington Army and Navy Revolvers 1861-1888" You NM Army would have been made in mid June of 1864.
