What type of musket is it? To me, it looks like part of the brass throat of an Enfield bayonet.

Mike......pretty sure it's as Gil says. I've seen two of these advertised on other sites and listed by servicemen who brought them back from the sandbox years ago. The "badges" are cut from the sheet metal brass used in the bayonet scabbard's throat. Many have inspectors marks on them. I guess the natives thought it cute to do. The below website will show you pictures of the markings and also tell you these variations would not have been imported during the War of Northern Aggression.
