What are loads are guys using in their Taylor's Spencer rifles and carbines? I'm interested in all your details; bullet, primer, powder, compressed vs. non-compressed, etc.

In my original Spencer I shoot 33grains of 2f goex, CCI pistol primer, SPG lube, compressed, with a compression die, just enough so I can seat the bullet without deforming the tip.

Thanks for the info, Kevin.

Just one reply? Where are all you Spencer shooters out there? Or do you just not want to give away your medal-winning secrets?

Henry's may have more speed, but Spencer's have more soul!

I was using 30 gr of 1 1/2 Swiss, large pistol primers, 50-70 cases cut to .920, and a rapine .546 mould. My overall length was 1.550. This load worked well but the action became sticky after 20 rounds. Switched to 3F swiss and can now shoot many more rounds and accuracy doesn't deteriorate as the fouling is minimal. I also put a thin veg. wad over the powder. Will hold 2" at fifty yards with the original barrel.

Hello, Spadegrip:

Is that load for a Taylor Spencer or for an ORIGINAL Spencer, please?

Thanks,

That is with an original 1860 Spencer rifle. Same load worked well in my 1860 carbine as well.
