UPS is raising there rates

If you ship rifles or muskets in large boxes then you should be aware that Effective June 6, 2016, UPS is changing the measurement that determines whether the UPS Additional Handling charge will be applied to UPS® Ground services packages in the U.S.
Any package with the longest side exceeding 48 inches, instead of 60 inches, will be assessed the fee. The Additional Handling fee is $10.50.
You may get away when shipping a carbine but a full length rife or musket could generate the new fee.

Not necessarily, because most muskets have a very long one piece stock and when you add padding material to each end the length could be longer than 48". I am looking into Fedex for shipping because they don't have this surcharge.
