Anybody care to chime in about their favorite Ballard loads? Just got one, and curious what guys are using.
Has anybody tried one of those very light shirtcollar bullets?

45 colt? Mine likes a 350 grain bullet with 27 grains of goex 2F The bullet is seated out far enough to where when I close up the action the projectile is pressed into the rifling. I dont resize my brass either.

Wow, that seems like a heavy bullet for .45 Colt. Why do you like that one instead of a 200 or 250?

Its not what I like.... Its what my gun likes. yea it is a heavy bullet but I tried lighter ones and it did not like them. I am just shooting the load that it likes. Recoil is very mild so I am hoping that the frame will not crack. I wished it liked the 250 grain bullet mould that I have but it does not. The gun is a brown made ballard rifle

I have a Ball and Williams Ballard carbine chambered for 44 Special. I use a Lyman 429421 (Keith style semi wad cutter), hard cast, sized to .430 over a target paper wad, 23 grains of Goex 3f and my lube.

It all about the barrel. If you have a Hoyt reline you are lucky. You can use a round ball too. When the Skirmish Line was doing inteviews with Distinguished N-ssa shooters, the 1st person to get the Single Shot award used a Ballard rifle, round ball with 18 grains FF as I remember. Try everything you can get your hands on. Shooting Ballards with original rifling is more work. Always use the lightest bullet and load that works. Good luck, The Ballard guy.
