Once had a smalllish, hard-cover book with information on the development of the .58 caliber Minie ball at the Harper's Ferry arsenal. Had info on the European rifles / projectiles that had been investigated, along with drawings of the various projectiles experimented with. Also reprints of letters to and from Secretary of War Jefferson Davis. Lots of good info, and I would like to find another copy -- just can no longer recall the book particulars.

Ring a bell with anybody?

TIA,

Tom

It is titled "Small Arms 1856". Alibris has several listed, prices from reasonable to crazy. http://www.alibris.com/booksearch?keyword=Small+Arms+1856&mtype=B&hs.x=0&hs.y=0

Dean Thomas sells that book. He is located in Fairfield, PA, just outside of Gettysburg. The book is printed under the name "Thomas Publications."

That's the one - found and ordered one on Amazon. (My previous copy was the victim of a downsizing last year.)
