Armory Marks on Maynard?

Just bought me another Maynard at the Fall Nationals. It has US stamped on barrel, reciever and stock. It also has AP stamped on the Stock near the buttplate. Was this an armory issue or post war reiisue. The serial number is 7XXX, so I suspect it was issued and carried during the war.

In the near ah-bout's 6,000 Maynard's I've inspected over the last 20 years I've never seen nor heard of such a beast. I saw your Maynard on the line at Nationals. All stamping were on the right side. I suggest it was done post war and by someone sneeking into daddy's stamping set, or the like.
Then again,,,,who really knows. :roll:
