Two questions. I have a chance to buy a Uberti Henry .44-40 at a good price. The list of approved arms states Uberti (Navy Arms) Henry's are approved. What about other importers such as Taylor's, Cimerron and Stoeger Henrys? Secondly if reloading what size bullet does the Uberti Henry take? Thanks

From the Cover Page of the "Reproduction Approved Arms List":

(4) Arms listed by Manufacturer are allowed for use in the N-SSA’s competitive matches regardless of who the Importer or Vendor may be. When an Importer, or Vendor, name is shown it is only as a courtesy indicating that they submitted the arm for Production Approval. For example, a reproduction 1860 Henry Rifle made by Uberti is approved, regardless of the Importer’s name on the barrel.

I believe if you repost your question regarding bullet size, etc. on the "Shooting Techs & Tips" page you may get better results. Also, if you search the archives there are volumes of that type info available.

Personally, I have found that the very early reproduction Henry Rifles had a smaller diameter bore size than the later reproductions. The best thing for you to do is, like with any rifle, slug the bore first.

For what it's worth, my Henry likes a bullet sized to .429". You would do well to take John's advice about slugging the bore.

Originally, the 44-40 had a .427 bore. Modern reproductions usually have the same bore and twist rate used by .44 Special and .44 Magnum rifles and pistols, which is .429.

My Navy Arms Henry uses a Lyman 427098 sized to .430 over 30 grains of Goex 3fg and a paper wad.

I'd slug my bore or ask for some sample bullets from other members before committing to buying a mold.

Beyond that, as I shoot a .45, I can't really offer any suggestions, other than, "See you on the line!" :)
