Model 1855 Musket Lock guidance needed

I am gathering the parts for a 3 band 1855 rifle musket and I can't seem to get the reproduction lock plate I got at the fort last Spring to function. My first question is this. Shouldn't interal parts from a 1864 lock work on this plate? I am certain this is a newby question but I would sure like to get headed down the path to a working solution. Thanks in advance for your help.
