To All:

Now that I have basically completed restoring two Common Rifles, I have a ramrod leftover that I do not know what it is. This rod was with the flintlock Common Rifle, but it is just a tad bit too wide to fit down the bore. I at first thought that it was because I had the bore relined, but I tried the rod in the other Common Rifle, and it will not fit down that bore either. The Common Rifle bores are .54 cal.

The original rods are brass tipped trumpet style rods. This rod is a button style. The diameter is 9/16 of an inch across. The the treads have been broken off. The ram rod is 34 1/4 inches in length. It is still a usable rod, I just would like to know to what. It seems like it would work well with a .57 cal. Is it European or possible a Cadet rod? I have two pictures posted below.

In my opinion only, it looks like a blacksmith made rod to be used with a rifle that was "shot-gunned".

I second John's assessment.
