Armi Sport 1842 Rifled Musket question

I am posting this for a friend, who has a Rifled 1842 musket that he would like to shoot on occasion. He wants to use the orginal style .69 cal minie (big chunk of lead!). Does anyone shoot this rifled musket with this original style bullet? If so, what powder charge do you suggest using for this big round?

Hey there.
Advise your buddy to check his bore diameter before investing in a mold or bullets.
The reason for saying that is that with the Armisport .69's, the as cast minies from the Lyman mold are liable to be tumblers due to bore being oversized. Mine has a .696 bore diameter and .702 grooves.

Over the years I've experimented with a paper patched hollow base round nose design and got the bugs killed off.
But, I want to shoot regular US lubed type minies. So, I've had a Lyman mold altered to have larger diameter rings. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Hopefully it will work at ranges as far as I can shoot.

If your buds bore is as grossly oversized as mine is he might do well with a paper patch on the Lyman design as an economical alternative..

I have a Carbine de Chaeusser de Vincinnes, (European version of the Whitneyville Plymouth). I shoot the Lyman Old style minnie with 63 grains of FFF. Does not kick much and shoots dead on, it is Hoyt lined. I also shoot a full wadcutter 69 caliber with 50 grains. The bullet weighs 1100 grains and kicks like a mule but is also very accurate. I think the Armis Sports have a larger bore so he will have to measure it.
