Mainspring for 1817 common rifle?

TO All:

I am looking for a mainspring for a 1817 flintlock comon rifle. I picked up an original flintlock rifle for under $400 but the main spring is broken in half. Will the model 1816 mainspring work in this rifle? I need to fix that and there is a long crack in the stock that I have to inspect on the rifle. THe bore is original .54 cal, but DIRTY. I do not even know if I should consider a reline on the rifle since many of them were bored out. Thoughts and information will be greatly appreciated!

I had Larry Romano repair a broken 1817 Common Rifle main spring...did a great job on a hard spring to find.

www.therifleshoppe.com carrys that spring and other parts under US Arms. You will need to finish it and harden it as these parts come as cast, no biggie. There is a section on their site on how this is done. I believe if you call them when placing your order, they can also provide this service for an addl chg. Regards, Rob
