I'm looking for a ball or minie mold for a uberti hawkin, these were marked .54 cal but are actually .53. Anyone one out there ever own one that can let me know what worked best for you? I haven't mic'd the bore yet but a .535 ball is tight, so I'm thinking .530 or .52............
thanks

I'd try to slug the bore to be certain about that .53 caliber. Whatever it works out to be, shoot the tightest combination of ball and patch you can load. For a 54, the rule of thumb is one grain of powder per caliber for 25 and 50 yards and 1 1/2 grains for 100 yards. Say 55 and 80 grains of ffg powder to start.

54 Caliber maxi sized down to slightly over bore size. Thompson Center made them at one time.
