The specific snot reference is humpback. Received a closeup dose from the blowhole of one of these big boys while cruising off Bar Harbor, ME; meanwhile I was involved in massive upchucking over the side. For several hours I was officially declared legally dead.

OK; I must take exception. Since whales clearly do not have noses, and their blowhole is really more anatomically and physiologically analogous to the human pharynx than anything else, then the more correct term for expectorations therefrom would be "whale phlegm".

Indeed. I know that smell, have smelt that smell. It's primordial.

I agree! These guys need something better to think about than the smell of whale snot! How bout some good ole black powder smoke. If ya gotta sprinkle a few grains on top of the woodstove and light it up like I did just to catch a whiff of what every Skirmisher needs to smell this time of year!

Actually we of the Sunny South simply stroll out into the back yard and pop off a few rounds to savor the sweet aroma of the BP. We feel for you folks up to your giblits in snow.

Hit 71 at the farm bere in Bealeton Virginny an hour south east of the Fort. Raking leaves and burning the yard off. Sweating away raking.

Went out two hours ago and fired five smoothbore rds. at 25 yds into the pigeon silowet -- five out of five well into the black. Having delusions of grandeur.

Spent about 4 hours today showing some Newbies how to hold, sight, breathe and squeeze in the back yard.

Don't be so negative about shooting in the snow here in the Great White North. Makes it kinda pretty and it hides all of the
rocks, stumps and transmissions laying around. Also, the black powder grains lay right on top of the snow to show you if you have the best charge for your smokepole.

Yeah my sister's up there. Was on Mackinac Island up there on the north end of the lower end last August. Beautiful place - no cars --all horses. Only down side is there was still snow on the ground.

My boys and I spent a couple hours Saturday plowing a path thru the over knee deep snow to my target frame so I could finally perfect my Maynard load. With the plow we only found a couple tires, a tractor tire rim and a few pallets. No transmissions! And I also found 3 10s, 1 X, and 2 9s once I got a path to hang a target!

Mike Rouch's sprue cutter works slick as whale snot.

Is there a photo or a video of this device? How much is it - and how do I get one?

Look under "Around the Campfire," "Sprue Cutter from Mke Rouch is Awesome." Maillstromaker posted an exact draftsman rendering. $20 postpaid.

Well, it's not exact because I made it from memory.

But it pretty much looks like this:
