I'm wondering if a nose cap off an 1873 Trapdoor rifle is interchangeable with a nose cap off an 1861 Springfield rifle musket? In pictures, they look the same, but then, I would expect the barrels to be different diameters. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Hallo!

I have never tried it, but IMHO I think no (for barrel diameter issues).

HOWEVER...

In the "TABLE of Changes that have been made to the Springfield Rifle-Musket, from 1855 to 1879, and what part of one Model is Interchangeable with a similar part of another:"

"tips" (nose caps) are listed as interchangeable all the way up to the M1873 Rifle, and Cadet Musket, but not the Carbine..

The nose caps do not interchange because of different barrel diameters.

Thanks all-- that is what I suspected.
