I recently picked up a Lorenz and was looking for a bullet to try. An N-SSA member on this board was kind enough to send me some .542 Moose compression bullets to see if they would work. It was a dismal failure. The bore slugs at .544 and the groves at .562. Any suggestions as to which bullet may work? Thanks.

Read the thread "WTB Moose Wilkerson .542 moul (http://www.n-ssa.org/vbforum/showthread.php/9970-WTB-Moose-Wilkerson-542-mould)d" below and you will find the answers to your questions. The search function is always useful.

I recently purchased a 2-cavity .54 mold from Tennessee Bullet Molds. There is a short and long version of the .54 minie. Go with the long version...the short is only like 380 grains and would not be heavy enough.

For those of you with original Lorenz Rifles in the 13.9 mm or .54 cal.
You may want to go to http://www.davide-pedersoli.com web site and look up their 1857 Wurtembergischen Rifle.
DP produces a mold for that Rifle in .547 dia. = 13.89 mm, which should do very well in the Lorenz.

Don't forget to click on the Brit Flag to get the info in English... Click on the Rifle section, and I believe on page 3 you will find the Wurtemberg Rifle. Then click on More Information. You will also find a Bullet Code and Mold Code that will give you more info on them as well sizing dies for that dia.
I hope you all find this help full.
My best,
Blair

Hello Guys,

It's been a time since I posted here, but I think I can add some info to the Lorenz question. Just made a short video about the 1854 M "Lorenz" Infanteriegewehr.

I translated the manual for the 1854 Lorenz from German to English this year. You can see it at: http://acwsa.org/Documents/LorenzManualTranslation.pdf

Excellent work Gary! Thanks for the link. One of the original books I used was this one. We have it in our library. It is also useful to add the info from the Exercier reglements and the Abrichtungs reglements of the 1850s-60s.

Does anyone know where you can actually buy the Pedersoli mold? I see it on their site but can't find it sold anywhere.
Thanks,
Aaron
