As I continue with my 1841 Mississippi Rifle project, I'm wondering if original Mississippi's had ramrod stops inserted under the trigger assembly like later rifle-muskets like the 1861's and others. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Bill,

Are you referring to a ramrod spoon which puts tension on the rammer, or some sort of stop block inserted into the wood between the trigger guard and the barrel? If spoon, then yes. If insert, then I don't know.

I knew they had the spoon, but was wondering about the ramrod stop-- the small square of dished out steel inserted under the trigger assembly, as seen on later rifle muskets.
Actually, as I write this, I may have my answer. A friend emailed me and directed me to an original Mississippi stock being offered up on EBay. In one photo showing the inletting for the trigger assembly, there is no sign of a ramrod stop.

I just checked an original Tryon and Robbins & Lawrence and neither has a ramrod stop block like the 1842 and some other muskets have.
