Is the 1857 WURTTEMBERGISCHEN - MAUSER .54 made by Pedersoli an approved arm?

No, bottom-line is that no one has presented any evidence it was ever used in the American Civil War. I sent a query to Pedersoli about it, here's their reply:

Thank you for your inquiry.

When we started producing this rifle, back in the 1998, it was following the specific request from Mauser company, which it is known being the company that originally projected this rifle under the name of Königlich Württembergische Gewehrfabrik on the 1811 and later on changed its name with Mauser Gewehrfabrik on the 1872, its location in Oberndorf am Neckar.
Projected for the German Infantry, it resulted being a very accurate gun.

We are sending you some pages of the book " FIREARMS OF EUROPE " " History and description of firearms imported during the American Civil War , by the United States of America and the Confederate States of America "
by DAVID NOE - LARRY W. YANTZ, JAMES B. WHISKER

At page 178 , you can find our gun described as " Model 1857 Rifle -Musket by Württemberg , Baden , and Hasse - Darmstadt "

I can send you a copy of what Pedersoli sent, but all it is is a picture of the book cover and the musket.

Gary is correct.
However, there are several N-SSA Members that are looking into providing the required documentation that, hopefully, will help get this firearm approved.
Sorry, I can't supply more details at this time. It is probably best that the N-SSA Members involved in this search report their findings to the SAC as they become available.

Hallo!

Noe, Yantz, and Whisker included a picture of it on the picture page (178).

They share no research or documentation in the body of their work or text that speaks to any being imported for the ACW.

(Some lads, stretch things, I guess as a justification, saying that the US and CS arms purchases scoured the sundry Germanic duchies, states, principalities, and free cities scarfing up any and all "obsolete' arms they could find and buy. And could have gotten Baden/Wuettemberger or Hessen rifles. )

IIRC, the story was that the repro was made for European demand and market.

I had one, it was very nice, but NOT R & D'd to the CW that I know of.
