WTB Dresden 1857 musket and Spencer carbine

I have been assisting my neighbor in finding the arms used by his two ancestors in the civil war.

It seems we have settled on a model 1851/1857 Saxon-Dresden musket in .58 cal and a Spencer carbine. The Spencer carbine can be either original or reproduction. He is looking for these arms to purchase. If any of you have one of these and would consider selling them please either post a reply or you can contact Keith at....... lzsharon <lzsharon@comcast.net>

    Thanks

Your neighbors ancestor made things a little difficult. The Saxon/Dresden musket can be hard to find in complete, decent condition. This one sold for 3200.00 if I remember correctly (and sold quickly), but is about the best one I've seen. Most are either fairly rough or missing parts that are nearly impossible to find.

The Spencer should be no problem.

I saw the one at College Hill and it looked nice but was sold. He is in no hurry to get one and has a line on an 1851. He has gotten lots of responses and is looking at a repro spencer now.

    Thanks for the information.

Keith has let me know he is more interested in a Spencer Rifle and not in a carbine. Looks like about all we can find available is a reproduction. If anyone has a Rifle original or other, please let him know.

    FOR SALE M-1851 Saxon-Dresden Rifle

Hello all, I've owned this Civil War era rifle for many years. Originally discovered in our home in Connecticut in 1960 or so. The maker; PJ Malherbe & Cie over A Liege and known as the Saxon or Dresden rifle. All the metal parts are stamped with the number 13 including the muzzle loader. Unfortunately it does lack the rear sight. Overall the rifle is in great condition. The wooden portions have few dings and marks and the cheek pad is well defined. An excellent antique rifle I'm told.

Please contact me if you have any interest in this firearm.

    Sincerely, Howard Page

Dresden musket and carbine have been purchased

My neighbor was able to find a very nice 1857 Dresden musket and also a Smith carbine which fit into the family historical research he did. Thanks for all the help from our group in the N-SSA. I know two of you were very helpful in supplying the arms he wanted to display. I hope we can persuade him to come out and use them in the skirmishes now instead of letting them just hang on the wall.

    Thanks
