    Identify friction primer

I am woKing as a historical archaeologist and identified a friction primer recovered from a well on a lot in a small town in central Illinois. A 1 3/4” brass tube open on one end and closed on the other. There are one large and one small hole on the closed end. I have seen these recovered from battlefields but would like more information. When were they first used, manufacturer etc.

There was a training camp about 15 miles away and it could have come from there or have been brought home post war.

The photo I have is to large to post but I can email it for identification.
