Picked up a book titled Civil War Carbines, Myth vs Reality, by Peter Schiffers. He takes eleven different original carbines of the era and does a breakdown of the history, performance and test firing, great book. He says the Smith has a slow twist at 1 turn in 62". Hope this helps.

I'd measured ROUGHLY 56", but dwell time with patched rod creates doubt, esp with short barrels that allow only a 1/4 turn.
